If you live in Barrie or are new to the area, there are plenty of legal cannabis stores to choose from. This guide covers the legal basics, how to make sure a store is authorized, and how shopping works at Mellow Malibu.
The legal basics
- You must be 19 or older to buy or possess cannabis in Ontario.
- Bring valid government-issued photo ID. Authorized stores check it at the door.
- You can carry up to 30 grams of dried cannabis (or the equivalent) in public, and that is also the most you can buy in one transaction.
- You cannot consume cannabis in a vehicle or boat that is being driven or will be driven.
Our guide to Ontario cannabis rules covers where you can consume, driving, home growing and travel in more detail.
How to tell a store is legal
Only stores authorized by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) can sell recreational cannabis. Look for the AGCO seal at the entrance and on the store’s website, and check that every product carries an excise stamp. The AGCO publishes a list of authorized stores on its website. Unlicensed websites and delivery services are illegal, and their products are not tested or regulated.
