Pre-rolls are ready-to-use cones or joints filled with ground dried cannabis. Infused pre-rolls look similar, but they also contain added cannabis concentrate. That single difference changes the THC content considerably.
Regular pre-rolls
A regular pre-roll contains only dried flower. Sizes usually range from about 0.35 g to 1 g per pre-roll, sold as singles or multi-packs. THC and CBD are listed as a percentage, just like dried flower, and the label identifies the cultivar (strain).
Infused pre-rolls
Infused pre-rolls add concentrate to the flower, such as distillate, kief, hash or resin, sometimes applied as an outer coating. Because concentrate is much more potent than flower, the total THC per pre-roll is usually higher than a regular pre-roll of the same size.
What to compare on the label
- THC per unit: infused products often list milligrams of THC per pre-roll. Compare it with the regular pre-rolls you are used to.
- What is added: the product description usually states the type of concentrate.
- Pack size: check how many pre-rolls are in the package and the weight of each.
If you have not tried an infused product before, ask our staff to compare options with you, and see our concentrates guide for what terms like distillate, kief and hash mean.
Storing pre-rolls
Keep pre-rolls in their tube or original package, somewhere cool and dark, so they do not dry out. More tips are in our storage guide.
Where you can consume
In Ontario you can generally smoke cannabis where tobacco smoking is allowed, with important exceptions, including any vehicle or boat that is being driven or will be driven. Read the full Ontario cannabis rules.
