Cannabis oils, capsules and topicals are non-smokable formats that list THC and CBD in milligrams. Each one is used differently, so here is a factual overview of how they compare.
Cannabis oils
Cannabis oils are extracts mixed into a carrier oil, such as MCT oil, and usually sold in a bottle with a dropper or oral syringe. The label shows THC and CBD in milligrams per millilitre (mg/mL), so you can work out how much is in a measured amount. Oils are taken by mouth, and like edibles, effects can take time to begin and can last several hours.
Capsules
Capsules contain a set amount of cannabis extract in each unit. In Canada, each capsule meant to be swallowed can contain no more than 10 mg of THC, and the label shows the THC and CBD content per capsule. Because the amount is fixed, capsules make it easy to know how much you are taking.
Topicals
Topicals are creams, balms and lotions containing cannabis extract that are applied to the skin. They are labelled with their THC and CBD content per container. Follow the directions on the package, avoid broken skin and eyes, and stop using a product if irritation occurs.
Comparing products

Storage
Keep oils upright and capped, and store all three formats in their original child-resistant packaging, away from heat and out of reach of children and pets. Capsules in particular can be mistaken for other medications, so store them separately.
